JaME's 20th Anniversary: Comment from Mikaru

This year marks JaME's 20th anniversary, and our team has various contents in store throughout 2024 to celebrate this milestone and trace the journey the site has taken over the years. With this in mind, who better to kick off these celebrations than Mikaru, an artist our team has encountered in many different countries and forms over the past two decades. 

He first appeared on JaME as a member of the visual kei band Dio - distraught overlord, who our team first had the opportunity to interview back in 2006. Dio was one of the first visual kei bands to venture to Europe when the genre was at the height of its popularity overseas. After Dio's disbandment came BLACK LINE, who we interviewed back in 2012, and in 2013, Mikaru launched his latest project G.L.A.M.S, which we spoke to him about most recently in 2020.

With G.L.A.M.S, Mikaru has expanded the scope of his activities, highlighting not just his versatility as a singer and songwriter, but also his skills as a painter and jeweller. Most recently, he has been performing together with guitarist Yudai, who joined him for an appearance at Otakon in Washington, D.C. in 2022.
